Srinagar, September 11, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Friday launched a strong attack on the BJP, calling it “India’s biggest liar party” and accusing it of damaging the country’s reputation through what he described as false claims.
Reacting to BJP allegations that development has suffered in Jammu and Kashmir under the elected government, Choudhary said he had no interest in engaging with what he termed the party’s “lies”.
🗣️ Questions BJP Over J&K-Cadre Officers
Choudhary, who joined the National Conference in 2023 after leaving the BJP, challenged BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma to explain how many IAS and IPS officers from Jammu and Kashmir have been posted outside the region over the years.
He questioned why experienced local officers were not being appointed to senior positions within Jammu and Kashmir and asked why the issue was not being raised by the BJP leadership.
Choudhary also questioned the reassignment of IAS officers and argued that officers belonging to Jammu and Kashmir should have greater opportunities to serve in the region.
🎓 Raises Jammu University Issue
The Deputy Chief Minister also referred to Jammu University, recalling the tenure of former Vice-Chancellor Amitabh Mattoo.
He questioned why more local professors and academics were not being considered for senior university positions, while stressing that his remarks should not be interpreted as criticism of the present Vice-Chancellor’s capabilities.
Choudhary also raised concerns about the university’s ranking and called for greater consideration of qualified local academics for leadership positions.
🛣️ Challenges BJP Over Development Record
On the question of development, Choudhary said people could judge the performance of the elected government themselves and challenged Sunil Sharma to a direct debate.
He specifically pointed to PMGSY road connectivity and NABARD-funded roads, asking people to compare the work carried out under the present administration with that of the previous government.
“Our government was formed in 2024,” Choudhary said, urging people to use RTI to compare the number of PMGSY roads constructed under the present administration with those built during the previous 12 years.
He said he was currently referring specifically to the PWD sector.
⚡ ‘Hit-and-Run Politics’
Taking another swipe at the BJP, Choudhary described its political strategy in Jammu and Kashmir as “hit and run”, alleging that the party had failed to deliver despite its criticism of the government.
He also described the BJP’s performance in J&K as a “flop show”, using a reference to comedian Jaspal Bhatti’s popular satirical programme.
🎵 National Song Controversy
Asked about Congress criticism of the National Conference over the performance of the full national song at the inauguration of the International Film Festival, Choudhary said an unnecessary controversy had been created.
The Deputy Chief Minister’s remarks add another sharp political exchange to the ongoing debate in Jammu and Kashmir over development, governance, administrative postings and the performance of the elected government.
