DUBAI, June 8, 2026 : Amid escalating tensions and renewed military exchanges in the Middle East, India on Monday reiterated its advisory urging citizens to avoid travel to Iran and advised those currently in the country to leave through available means of transport at the earliest.
The fresh warning was issued by the Indian Embassy in Iran following the latest developments in the region, which have intensified concerns over the safety and security of foreign nationals.
In an urgent advisory posted on social media platform X, the embassy reaffirmed its earlier guidance, stating:
“In view of the latest developments in the region, the Embassy reiterates its earlier advice to all Indian Nationals to avoid any travel to Iran.”
The advisory further urged Indian citizens already present in Iran to leave the country through available transportation options while conditions permit.
“Indian Nationals presently in Iran are also advised to exit the country by available means of transport,” the embassy said.
The warning comes after a fresh escalation in hostilities between Israel and Iran. According to reports, Israel launched airstrikes targeting locations in central and western Iran on Monday in response to missile attacks allegedly launched from Iranian territory.
India had earlier issued a precautionary advisory on April 7, 2026, advising its citizens in Iran to remain where they were for 48 hours amid growing regional uncertainty.
The earlier advisory followed heightened tensions after US President Donald Trump warned of severe consequences if Iran failed to comply with a deadline related to the Strait of Hormuz blockade, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.
Official figures indicate that approximately 9,000 Indian nationals, including a large number of students, were residing in Iran when the conflict intensified following strikes on Iranian targets by Israel and the United States on February 28, 2026. Since then, nearly 1,800 Indians have reportedly returned home.
The Government of India continues to closely monitor the evolving security situation and remains engaged in ensuring the safety and welfare of Indian citizens in the region. Authorities have advised all Indian nationals to remain in contact with the Embassy, follow official updates, and take necessary precautions amid the ongoing conflict.
The renewed advisory underscores New Delhi’s growing concern over the deteriorating security environment in the Middle East as regional tensions show no signs of easing.
