Jammu/Samba, June 15, 2026 : In a major security enforcement drive ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered 19 First Information Reports (FIRs) against property owners in Samba district for failing to comply with mandatory tenant verification requirements.
According to officials, the cases were registered at Samba Police Station and Bari Brahmana Police Station during a special verification campaign aimed at strengthening security measures and ensuring strict compliance with tenant verification norms.
Special Verification Drive Conducted
The drive focused on verifying the identities of outsiders residing in the district as tenants and domestic helpers. Police authorities said the exercise was undertaken as part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and prevent misuse of rented accommodations.
During the operation:
• 13 FIRs were registered at Bari Brahmana Police Station.
• 6 FIRs were registered at Samba Police Station.
The cases have been filed under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Violation of District Administration Orders
Officials stated that the District Magistrate of Samba had already issued directives making police verification of tenants mandatory across the district.
Despite repeated instructions, several house owners and landlords allegedly failed to furnish details of their tenants and domestic workers to the local police authorities, resulting in legal action.
Police emphasized that tenant verification is an important preventive security measure designed to help maintain law and order and identify potential threats in a timely manner.
SSP Appeals for Public Cooperation
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samba Anuj Kumar appealed to all property owners, landlords, and landowners to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies.
He urged citizens to promptly submit complete details of tenants and domestic helpers at their nearest police station and ensure compliance with verification procedures.
The SSP highlighted that timely verification plays a crucial role in preventing criminal activities and ensuring that rented premises are not misused by anti-social or unlawful elements.
Security Measures Intensified Ahead of Amarnath Yatra
The verification drive comes amid heightened security preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, one of the country’s most significant annual pilgrimages.
Just two days before the verification operation, SSP Anuj Kumar conducted an extensive review of security arrangements across the Bari Brahmana area to assess police preparedness for the safe and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
During the inspection, the SSP visited various lodgement centres designated for accommodating pilgrims and reviewed deployment plans, surveillance measures, and operational readiness of security personnel.
Focus on Highway Security
Officials said special attention has also been directed toward strengthening security arrangements at all national highway checkpoints falling within Samba district.
The review included assessments of vehicle checking procedures, monitoring mechanisms, emergency response capabilities, and overall coordination among security agencies.
Authorities maintain that these proactive measures are aimed at ensuring the safety of residents, visitors, and thousands of pilgrims expected to travel through the region during the Amarnath Yatra season.
