Jammu/Reasi, June 15, 2026 : In a heartening example of prompt police action and public service, the Security Wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police successfully traced and returned a lost bag containing Rs 72,220 in cash and important documents to a pilgrim visiting the revered Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district.
According to police officials, the pilgrim, Vipin Sonkar, reported the loss of his bag after realizing it had gone missing during his journey. He suspected that the bag may have been misplaced either at Katra or at the Sanjichhat Helipad, a key transit point for pilgrims traveling to the shrine.
Prompt Search Operation Launched
Upon receiving the complaint, personnel of the Security Wing immediately initiated a search operation to locate the missing belongings. Acting swiftly and coordinating efforts across the pilgrimage route, the police team began tracing the unattended bag.
Their efforts proved successful when the bag was located at the Sanjichhat Helipad, where it had been left unattended.
Verification Followed by Safe Return
After recovering the bag, police officials conducted a thorough verification of its contents and confirmed the rightful ownership through the necessary documentation and identification procedures.
Once verification was completed, the bag was formally handed back to Vipin Sonkar along with all the cash and important documents it contained.
Officials confirmed that the recovered bag held Rs 72,220 in cash, in addition to personal and important documents, all of which were returned intact.
