Lucknow, June 17, 2026 : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday asserted that police recruitment in the state under the BJP Government has been conducted with complete transparency, emphasizing that merit has remained the sole criterion for selection.
Addressing a programme in Lucknow where appointment letters were distributed to 930 newly recruited Computer Operators (Grade-A) selected through the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of transparent recruitment in strengthening law and order and ensuring good governance.
Congratulating the newly appointed personnel, Adityanath said that a fair and transparent selection process forms the foundation of an effective policing system and helps build public confidence in government institutions.
“Today, appointment letters are being distributed to 930 computer operators. Recently, examinations were conducted for nearly 35,000 police constable posts, attracting around 28 lakh applicants. Prior to that, recruitment examinations were also held for approximately 41,000 Home Guard positions,” he said.
The Chief Minister noted that over the past nine years, nearly 2.15 lakh police personnel have been recruited across various ranks and departments in Uttar Pradesh.
“All recruitment processes have been completed with full transparency. There has been no recommendation, no discrimination, and merit alone has determined selection,” Adityanath stated.
Highlighting the Government’s approach toward strengthening the state’s security framework, he said that transparent recruitment must be complemented by quality training and professional development to build a capable and accountable police force.
Reflecting on the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh before 2017, Adityanath said the state had witnessed serious security challenges that undermined public confidence.
Recalling an incident in Moradabad, he referred to an attack on a senior IPS officer of DIG rank during a violent mob incident, describing it as an example of the difficult circumstances faced by law enforcement personnel at the time.
“If even senior police officers were not safe, one can imagine the condition of ordinary citizens, traders, and women during that period,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister asserted that the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh has undergone significant transformation over the last several years, attributing the improvement to strict governance, enhanced policing, and transparent recruitment practices.
He said the Government remains committed to creating a modern, technology-driven police force capable of effectively addressing emerging security challenges while maintaining public trust.
The event was attended by Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Khanna, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad, Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna, senior officials, and newly appointed recruits.
The recruitment of computer operators is expected to strengthen the technological and administrative capabilities of the Uttar Pradesh Police, supporting the state’s ongoing efforts toward digital governance and efficient law enforcement.
