Betul (Madhya Pradesh), June 18, 2026 : President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday said that the tribal society exemplifies self-respect, patience, and a deep connection with nature, often choosing to endure challenges quietly rather than seeking assistance.
Addressing the programme titled “Empowerment of Tribal Society by Spiritual Awakening”, organised by the spiritual organisation Brahma Kumaris in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul district, the President highlighted the values and resilience of tribal communities.
“The tribal society lives with self-respect and patience and does not tell anyone about its problems. They never ask for anything and live with nature and with the hope that they will get things with time. They prefer to live in peace,” President Murmu said.
Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel and Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durga Das Uikey were present on the occasion.
The President noted that tribal communities continue to contribute significantly across various spheres of life. Referring to India’s philosophy of holistic development, she said true empowerment extends beyond economic progress and includes social, cultural, and spiritual advancement.
Emphasising the importance of spiritual awareness in modern society, President Murmu observed that the fast-paced, consumption-driven world requires a stronger focus on inner values and sustainable living.
She said spiritual awakening lays the foundation for long-term behavioural change and promotes lifestyles that are sensitive to natural resources. In the current global environment marked by tensions and conflicts, such values have become more important than ever, she added.
President Murmu is currently on a five-day visit to Madhya Pradesh. During her tour, she is scheduled to participate in several programmes, offer prayers at Omkareshwar, and visit Kuno National Park, which is home to several cheetahs.
