New Delhi,  June 19, 2026 :  The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it clear that discussions regarding India’s preparations for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup are ongoing and will remain confidential, with Secretary Devajit Saikia stressing that such strategic deliberations are not meant for public disclosure.

Speaking during an exclusive interaction, Saikia declined to comment on the future of individual players, particularly veteran stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, whose potential participation in the 2027 World Cup continues to generate widespread debate among cricket fans and experts.

While both former Indian captains have reportedly expressed their desire to remain in contention for the global showpiece event, neither chief selector Ajit Agarkar nor head coach Gautam Gambhir has offered any definitive indication regarding their place in the team’s long-term plans.

Saikia emphasized that India’s World Cup roadmap is being shaped through continuous discussions involving all key stakeholders within the cricketing ecosystem.

“We have a very well-knit team and a lot of experts. All stakeholders are taken on board,” Saikia said.

According to the BCCI Secretary, major decisions are made collectively with inputs from the cricket committee, selection panel, coaching staff, support personnel, and the players concerned.

He explained that regular consultations are already taking place and that there is no requirement for any special meeting to address future planning.

“There are regular conversations taking place. For that reason, we do not need any special session of interaction. This is an ongoing process,” he stated.

Saikia also firmly maintained that internal discussions related to team strategy and future planning are confidential matters that should remain within the boardroom.

“These are strategic discussions. I am not authorised to speak about them before the media. These are matters that should remain within the boardroom,” he added.

BCCI’s Stand on Bangladesh Cricket Relations

Addressing questions regarding the future of bilateral cricket ties with Bangladesh, Saikia reiterated that the BCCI follows the policies and directives of the Government of India when it comes to international sporting engagements.

India had postponed its scheduled white-ball tour of Bangladesh in the previous year amid political unrest in the neighbouring country. Since then, Bangladesh has transitioned to an elected government, while former national captain Tamim Iqbal has assumed the role of President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), expressing interest in reviving cricketing relations with India.

However, Saikia clarified that political developments in other nations do not influence the BCCI’s cricketing decisions directly.

“The BCCI is a cricketing controlling board, and we have nothing to do with what is going on politically in other countries.”

He further explained that the board adheres to all policies framed by the Indian government regarding participation in bilateral and multinational sporting events.

“Whatever regulations and policies the Government of India frames, we follow them, just like any other sports federation.”

Saikia also stressed that the nature of governance in another country is not a concern for the BCCI.

“We are not concerned with who is running the government in a particular country. Our job is to run cricket.”

The BCCI Secretary concluded by stating that whenever bilateral tours are scheduled, the board will proceed according to its cricketing calendar while remaining aligned with government guidelines.

As India begins laying the foundation for its 2027 World Cup campaign, the BCCI appears determined to keep its strategic planning away from public scrutiny while ensuring that all stakeholders remain involved in shaping the future of Indian cricket.
