SRINAGAR, June 22, 2026 : Large parts of Kashmir witnessed heavy rainfall on Monday afternoon, while several areas were also hit by hailstorms, resulting in waterlogging and disruption of normal life in parts of Srinagar city, officials said.
The sudden spell of intense rain swept across multiple districts of the Valley, including Srinagar, bringing much-needed relief from rising temperatures and causing a noticeable drop in daytime mercury levels.
According to officials, heavy showers were recorded in several areas, while hailstorms were reported from parts of Srinagar and Anantnag district, affecting local residents and commuters.
The downpour led to water accumulation in a number of low-lying areas, particularly in parts of Old Srinagar, where roads and residential localities experienced waterlogging following the rapid buildup of rainwater.
Several stretches of roads were inundated, slowing vehicular movement and causing inconvenience to pedestrians during peak hours.
Officials said municipal and emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the affected locations, and dewatering operations were launched to drain accumulated water and restore normal conditions.
The rainfall brought a significant dip in temperatures across the Valley, offering respite from the recent warm weather conditions.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious in waterlogged areas and follow weather-related advisories as intermittent rainfall is expected to continue in some parts of Kashmir.
The sudden weather activity once again highlighted the challenges posed by urban flooding in vulnerable areas of Srinagar during periods of intense rainfall.
