New Delhi, July 30, 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch a 100-week nationwide campaign against drug abuse among youth on August 2, aiming to create one of India’s largest youth-led movements for a drug-free society, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya announced in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

The campaign, titled “Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan,” seeks to raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse while encouraging young people to adopt healthy, active lifestyles.

PM Modi to Administer ‘Nasha Mukti’ Pledge

Speaking during the Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Mandaviya said Prime Minister Modi will address the nation on August 2, during which more than one crore youth are expected to take the “Nasha Mukti” pledge, committing themselves to remain drug-free and inspire others to do the same.

100 Weeks of Nationwide Activities

The campaign will run for 100 weeks, featuring a wide range of awareness and community engagement programmes, including:

  • 🏃 Sports competitions
  • 🚶 Walkathons
  • 🧘 Meditation and yoga sessions
  • 🎭 Street plays
  • 📢 Awareness drives and community outreach programmes

These activities are aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle while educating young people about the harmful effects of substance abuse.

MY Bharat to Lead the Campaign

The initiative will be spearheaded by MY Bharat, the youth-centric platform of the Department of Youth Affairs.

According to Mandaviya, the campaign will witness participation from:

  • Youth clubs
  • Schools and colleges
  • Universities
  • Non-governmental organisations (NGOs)
  • Industrial associations
  • More than 125 spiritual organisations

The government expects it to become one of the largest youth-led public awareness campaigns against drug abuse in India.

‘Government Alone Cannot Win This Fight’

Highlighting the importance of collective responsibility, Mandaviya stressed that tackling drug abuse requires the involvement of society as a whole.

He said encouraging young people to participate in sports and constructive activities is one of the most effective ways to steer them away from substance abuse.

“The government cannot do this alone. The entire society has to take responsibility for building a drug-free India,” the minister said.

The ‘Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan’ is expected to play a significant role in strengthening the government’s vision of a healthy, empowered and drug-free youth population, contributing to the broader goal of building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
