Ganderbal, July 30, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday conducted an extensive tour of Ganderbal district, reviewing key infrastructure projects, assessing developmental progress and interacting with public delegations to address local issues.
The Chief Minister inspected ongoing projects, chaired a high-level review meeting with senior officials and assured residents that the government remains committed to time-bound, transparent and people-centric development across the Union Territory.
Inspects New Bus Adda Road Project
The visit began with an inspection of the New Bus Adda Road project, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at easing traffic congestion in Ganderbal.
Emphasising timely completion, Omar Abdullah directed the executing agencies to accelerate construction so the road could be opened to the public at the earliest.
He was accompanied by Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Jatin Kishore, the Chief Engineer, Roads & Buildings Department, and other senior officials.
High-Level Review of Development Projects
The Chief Minister later chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the progress of major development works and discuss long-pending public issues.
The meeting focused on:
- Road connectivity and widening projects
- Irrigation infrastructure
- Flood protection measures
- Sewerage facilities
- Solid waste management
- Land acquisition
- Tourism infrastructure
- Public service delivery
Senior officials from multiple departments, including Housing & Urban Development, Power Development Corporation, Tourism, Irrigation & Flood Control, Roads & Buildings, and the J&K Sports Council, participated in the meeting, with several officers joining via video conference.
Priority Issues Highlighted
Deputy Commissioner Jatin Kishore presented a detailed overview of priority projects requiring urgent intervention, including:
- Expediting land acquisition for road widening projects
- Construction of the Paribal–Takanwari Bridge approach road
- Strengthening irrigation canals and power canal embankments
- Improving connectivity to the Central University of Kashmir
- Development of tourism infrastructure
- Establishment of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Manasbal
- Rehabilitation of shopkeepers displaced by Ring Road Phase-II
- Construction of strategic link roads
- Setting up an Integrated Solid Waste Management Plant
CM Calls for Faster Execution
After reviewing the status of various projects, Omar Abdullah directed all departments to work in close coordination to remove bottlenecks, expedite approvals and ensure the time-bound completion of ongoing and proposed works.
He stressed that delays should be minimised and instructed officials to maintain close inter-departmental coordination so that development projects deliver benefits to the people without unnecessary delay.
The Chief Minister reiterated that his government is committed to balanced and inclusive development, with special emphasis on strengthening infrastructure, improving civic amenities and ensuring responsive governance.
Meets Public Delegations
During his visit, Omar Abdullah also met several public delegations and individuals at the Dak Bungalow in Ganderbal, where he listened to grievances and development-related demands from residents.
Representatives from Safapora, Nuner, Manigam, Lar, Sherpathri, Shallabugh, Waskura, Wakura, Manasbal, Gutlibagh, Beehama, Rangil, Saloora, Wayil, Batwina and several other villages participated in the interaction.
The delegations raised issues related to:
- Drinking water supply
- Irrigation facilities
- Desilting of canals
- Upgradation of schools and healthcare institutions
- Staff shortages in health centres
- Development of playgrounds and sports infrastructure
- Tourism-related facilities
- Other local development concerns
The Chief Minister assured the delegations that their genuine issues would be addressed on priority and directed the concerned departments to examine each matter and take appropriate action within a fixed timeframe.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to transparent, accountable and people-centric governance, Omar Abdullah said public welfare and infrastructure development would remain at the core of the administration’s agenda.
