Srinagar, July 30, 2026 : The 1st International Film Festival of Jammu & Kashmir (IFFJK) 2026 has received an overwhelming global response, with 875 film entries from nearly 50 countries, highlighting the growing international interest in Jammu and Kashmir’s flagship cinematic initiative.

Organised by the Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), the inaugural festival will be held from September 7 to 10, 2026.

Global Response to Inaugural Festival

Officials said the strong participation from filmmakers across the world reflects increasing confidence in Jammu & Kashmir as an emerging destination for filmmaking, creativity and cultural exchange.

The film submission window remains open until July 31, 2026, giving filmmakers a final opportunity to register their entries for the inaugural edition.

Celebrating Cinema & Culture

The four-day international festival will feature:

  • 🎬 Screenings of selected films
  • 🎤 Interactive sessions with filmmakers
  • 🎓 Masterclasses by industry experts
  • 🗣️ Panel discussions
  • 🎭 Cultural programmes and engagements

The event aims to bring together filmmakers, producers, students, industry professionals and cinema enthusiasts from around the world, creating a vibrant platform for collaboration and creative dialogue.

Showcasing Jammu & Kashmir on the Global Stage

The IFFJK is envisioned as a landmark initiative to:

  • Promote Jammu & Kashmir as a global film destination.
  • Showcase the region’s rich cultural heritage and scenic beauty.
  • Encourage artistic excellence and cinematic innovation.
  • Strengthen cultural dialogue through cinema.
  • Foster international friendship and cooperation via the medium of film.

Officials believe the diversity of submissions from around 50 countries will enrich the festival with a broad range of storytelling traditions, artistic perspectives and filmmaking styles.

Curtain Raiser Held Earlier This Month

The festival’s curtain-raiser ceremony was held on July 17, 2026, when Chief Minister Omar Abdullah formally launched the first-ever International Film Festival of Jammu & Kashmir, inviting filmmakers, artists, producers and cinema lovers from across the globe to participate in the historic event.

With hundreds of entries already received and participation from dozens of countries, the inaugural IFFJK 2026 is expected to mark a significant milestone in positioning Jammu & Kashmir as an international hub for cinema, creativity and cultural exchange.
