NEW DELHI, AUGUST 08, 2026: Delhi Police have arrested a 32-year-old man accused of impersonating an employee of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and allegedly cheating a woman of more than ₹3 lakh on the promise of securing a cabin crew job for her son.
The accused, identified as Rajeev Kumar, was arrested on August 6, 2026, from Madhu Vihar, where police said he was working as a security guard at a retail store.
According to police, the woman came into contact with Kumar through social media in July 2024. He allegedly introduced himself as an airport employee and claimed that he could arrange a cabin crew position for her 20-year-old son.
Police said Kumar subsequently demanded money under various pretexts, including security deposit, documentation charges and recruitment formalities.
The woman allegedly transferred a total of ₹3.03 lakh through 16 UPI transactions between September 17 and December 26, 2024. After receiving the money, Kumar allegedly failed to arrange the promised job, stopped communicating with her and blocked her on social media.
Following a complaint, police conducted technical analysis, financial transaction tracking and field verification, which reportedly helped them trace and arrest the accused.
During interrogation, police said Kumar admitted to deliberately impersonating an airport employee to gain the confidence of job seekers and collect money from them.
Police further alleged that he deleted chats and destroyed the SIM card used in the offence. A mobile phone and bank-related documents connected to the alleged transaction were recovered, while further investigation is underway.
