KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 03, 2026 : The death toll from the devastating flash floods that swept across parts of Nepal has risen to 1,252, as rescue teams continue recovering bodies from severely affected areas more than a week after the disaster.
According to data released by the Nepal Police, the highest number of fatalities has been reported from Chitawan, where 355 bodies have been recovered. Nawalparasi East recorded 218 deaths, while 208 bodies were recovered from Nawalparasi West, including 18 bodies recovered in India and subsequently handed over to authorities in Nawalparasi West.
In Nuwakot, rescue teams have recovered 177 bodies, while 127 bodies have been recovered from Rasuwa. The death toll also includes 69 in Gorkha, 60 in Dhading and 38 in Tanahu.
🔎 SEARCH OPERATIONS CONTINUE
Joint rescue teams led by the Nepal Army continued intensive search and rescue operations for the ninth consecutive day on Thursday.
Authorities estimate that 4,875 people remain missing, raising fears that the death toll could increase further as rescue personnel reach remote and devastated areas.
🌊 DISASTER TRIGGERED BY ICE-ROCK AVALANCHE
The catastrophic flash floods were triggered on August 26, 2026, following an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal–Tibet border.
The resulting floods caused widespread destruction across towns and villages in northern and central Nepal, damaging homes and infrastructure and leaving thousands of people missing.
Rescue teams continue to face challenging conditions as they search affected communities and work to locate survivors and recover those still unaccounted for.
The scale of the disaster has left Nepal facing one of its most devastating flood emergencies, with rescue and recovery operations continuing amid the extensive destruction.
