SAHARANPUR, UTTAR PRADESH, SEPTEMBER 05, 2026 : An alleged unauthorised mosque structure located within the Saharanpur district collectorate complex was demolished early Saturday amid heavy police deployment, according to district officials.
The action followed an earlier demolition order issued by the Saharanpur City Magistrate, who had declared the structure illegal. The mosque committee subsequently approached the district court challenging the order.
On September 2, 2026, the district court rejected the committee’s appeal, clearing the way for the administration to proceed with the demolition, officials said.
The collectorate complex was placed under tight security on Saturday morning. All five entrances were closed, while members of the general public, including lawyers, were reportedly prevented from entering the premises during the operation.
The demolition has also triggered a political reaction, with opposition parties accusing the government of pursuing what they described as “politics of hate” and alleging that such action could weaken social harmony.
The administration’s action follows the judicial rejection of the challenge to the demolition order and comes amid heightened attention around disputes concerning religious structures and government land.
