KATHUA, SEPTEMBER 05, 2026 : Kathua Police have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking, detaining a habitual drug peddler under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act.
The detained person, Jasbir Singh, a resident of Chak Drab Khan village, was named in three FIRs registered at Kathua Police Station under various provisions of the NDPS Act in 2018, 2022 and 2026.
Police prepared a detailed dossier on his alleged continued involvement in illegal drug activities and forwarded it to the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, seeking preventive detention under the PIT-NDPS Act.
Following approval, the Divisional Commissioner issued a detention warrant, which was subsequently executed. Jasbir Singh has been lodged in jail.

In another anti-drug operation early Saturday, police arrested another suspected drug peddler, identified as Arjun, in the Galak area of Ramkot in Billawar.
Police intercepted him after noticing his suspicious movement, leading to the recovery of approximately 7 grams of heroin.
The accused has been booked under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the narcotics and possible links to a wider drug network.
The twin actions underline the continued efforts of Kathua Police to curb drug trafficking and prevent the spread of narcotics among the local population.
