SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 04, 2026 : Security forces on Friday eliminated one terrorist during a joint operation in the forest area of Ashdar Gali in Budgam district, officials said.
The operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs about the movement of a suspected group of terrorists from Pakherpora in Pulwama towards Yousmarg in Budgam.
A joint team of the Indian Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police and CRPF launched a search operation in the area. During the operation, troops noticed suspicious movement and challenged the suspected terrorists, following which they opened fire.
A fierce exchange of fire ensued, resulting in the neutralisation of one terrorist. Security forces recovered an AK-series rifle from the encounter site.
The search operation remains underway as forces continue efforts to locate another suspected terrorist believed to be hiding in the same area.
The identity of the slain terrorist has not yet been established.
The encounter comes after a lull of several months in militant activity in the Kashmir Valley, according to officials.
Security forces remain deployed in the area, with further searches being conducted to ensure that no threat remains.
