RAMBAN, May 19, 2026 : A passenger bus skidded off the road and overturned in the Sangaldan mountainous belt of Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district on Tuesday, leaving the conductor dead and 19 passengers injured, officials said.
The accident occurred near the Sangaldan police post when the bus was travelling to Jammu from Dharam in the Gool area of Ramban district.
Officials said the vehicle lost control on the mountainous stretch before overturning on the roadside, triggering panic among passengers.
Soon after the incident, police personnel, rescue teams and local residents rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. The injured passengers were immediately shifted to nearby medical facilities for treatment, officials added.
The deceased was identified as Ashu Singh, the conductor of the bus and a resident of Panara area in Udhampur district.
Authorities said the condition of some of the injured passengers was being monitored, while further investigation into the cause of the accident has been initiated.
