ANANTNAG, SEPTEMBER 14, 2026 ; A selection-grade constable was arrested in Anantnag district on Monday for allegedly hitting and injuring a Station House Officer (SHO) with his vehicle while reportedly driving at excessive speed near the Bijbehara police station.
Officials said the incident occurred late Sunday evening when SHO Majid Ahmad Khan was on duty near the police station. The constable allegedly struck the officer with his vehicle, leaving him injured.
The accused has been identified as Khurshid Ahmad Wani, son of Mohd Abdullah Wani, a resident of Bindoo in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district.
Following the incident, police seized the vehicle bearing registration number JK16A-3739.
Officials said Wani was arrested in connection with allegations of rash and negligent driving. He was also being questioned as part of the ongoing inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The case has drawn attention as the accused and the injured officer are both members of the police force. Further details regarding the SHO’s condition and the exact circumstances leading to the collision are awaited.
