Srinagar, May 14, 2026 : The Special Crime Wing Kashmir of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday conducted multiple raids across Srinagar and Budgam districts in connection with an alleged land fraud case involving forged documents, criminal conspiracy and cheating.
According to officials, the action was carried out in connection with FIR No. 06/2026 registered under Sections 420, 468 and 120-B RPC following a written complaint filed by a resident of Humhama in Budgam district.
The complainant alleged that Tariq Ahmad Sofi, a resident of Solina, Srinagar, fraudulently obtained several lakhs of rupees from him on the promise of selling a piece of land situated at Narkara in Srinagar.
During the investigation, the Crime Branch reportedly found prima facie evidence suggesting that the accused, identified as Tariq Ahmad Sofi, son of Ghulam Ahmad Sofi and resident of Tulsi Bagh, Srinagar, along with Tariq Ahmad Wani, son of Mohammad Abdullah Wani and resident of Narkara near Unani Hospital in Budgam, had allegedly prepared forged land documents to execute the fraudulent deal.
Investigators further stated that the accused persons were allegedly functioning as land brokers and had entered into a criminal conspiracy with the involvement of the then Patwari to manipulate official records and mislead the complainant for financial gain.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the Special Crime Wing carried out searches at several locations in Srinagar and Budgam in the presence of Executive Magistrates. Officials said the raids were aimed at collecting incriminating material, forged records and other evidence linked to the alleged fraud.
The Crime Branch reiterated its commitment towards curbing land-related fraud and safeguarding the interests of citizens. The agency also appealed to the public to remain cautious while entering into property transactions and advised people to verify documents thoroughly before making financial commitments.
Officials further urged citizens to immediately report incidents of fraud, cheating or suspicious land dealings directly to the SSP, Special Crime Wing Kashmir for prompt legal action.
