Kupwara, May 14, 2026: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday inaugurated the prestigious ‘Shaurya Gatha’ Complex at SM Hill in the Tangdhar area of Karnah in Kupwara district, marking a major step towards promoting battlefield tourism, preserving military heritage and accelerating development in border regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a large gathering during the inauguration ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor described the complex as a tribute to the unmatched bravery, courage and supreme sacrifice of Indian soldiers who laid down their lives in the service of the nation. He said the stories of valour associated with the region would continue to inspire future generations and strengthen the spirit of patriotism across the country.
Manoj Sinha lauded the dedicated efforts of the Northern Command, Chinar Corps, Army officers, soldiers, engineers, workforce and local residents for completing the ambitious project within a short period of time. He said the collective commitment shown in developing the memorial complex reflected the deep respect the nation holds for its armed forces.
Highlighting the tourism and economic significance of the project, the Lieutenant Governor said the ‘Shaurya Gatha’ Complex would emerge as a major attraction for battlefield tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. He added that the initiative is expected to create employment opportunities for local residents through homestays, handicrafts, tourism services and youth entrepreneurship in the border belt of Tangdhar-Karnah.
Speaking on the changing landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha said the Union Territory is witnessing peace, prosperity and rapid development, while Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir continues to face neglect and administrative failure. Reaffirming India’s stand, he stated that Jammu and Kashmir was, is and will always remain an integral part of the nation.
The Lieutenant Governor reiterated the administration’s commitment towards strengthening border area infrastructure and said initiatives under the Bharat Rannbhoomi Darshan programme would play an important role in boosting economic growth while showcasing the region’s defence heritage, history and culture.
He further announced that seven villages in the Tangdhar-Karnah region have been included under the Vibrant Village Programme aimed at improving infrastructure, enhancing livelihood opportunities and ensuring better quality of life for residents living in remote border areas.
Focusing on connectivity and strategic infrastructure, Manoj Sinha said the proposed Sadhna Tunnel would provide all-weather connectivity to the region, significantly improving security preparedness, trade, healthcare access, education facilities and disaster response capabilities.
Among those present on the occasion were senior Army commanders including Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma and Lieutenant General Balbir Singh, along with senior civil administration officials, police officers and security personnel.
