SRINAGAR, May 18, 2026 : The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has filed a chargesheet before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar against a retired In-charge Superintendent Engineer of the J&K State Power Development Corporation for allegedly manipulating his date of birth in official records and destroying evidence, officials said on Monday.
According to officials, the case pertains to allegations that the officer fraudulently altered his date of birth in service records to secure undue service-related benefits.
An FIR in the case was registered in 2015 under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) against the then Superintendent Engineer.
Officials of the Economic Offences Wing said the investigation was initiated following a written complaint alleging manipulation of the date of birth in the service records of the then In-charge Superintendent Engineer of the J&K State Power Development Corporation.
The probe, conducted by the then Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir — now functioning as the Economic Offences Wing Kashmir — revealed that the accused had allegedly changed his date of birth from October 28, 1955 to October 28, 1958 in official records.
Investigators said the alleged manipulation was carried out to obtain undue service benefits. The alteration was later confirmed through reports from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) Srinagar and verification by the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE).
Officials further stated that the accused allegedly destroyed his original service book in an attempt to conceal evidence, leading investigators to invoke Section 201 RPC related to destruction of evidence.
“The investigation in the instant case was concluded as proved against him, and accordingly the chargesheet was submitted before the Court of Law for judicial determination,” officials said.
