Srinagar, August 13, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, IPS, on Thursday chaired a high-level security review meeting at Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir to assess security preparedness across the Union Territory ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2026.
The DGP reviewed the operational readiness of police and security forces and directed officers to maintain heightened alertness and vigilance in the run-up to the celebrations.
Focus on Intelligence, Surveillance and Coordination
During the meeting, Prabhat stressed the need for intelligence-based operations, timely response mechanisms and close coordination among the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Armed Police Forces and other security and law-enforcement agencies.
He directed officers to ensure effective deployment of manpower, intensified area domination and continuous surveillance, particularly in vulnerable locations.
Security arrangements at major Independence Day venues were also reviewed, with special focus on Bakhshi Stadium in Srinagar, where the main UT-level celebrations are scheduled to take place.
Traffic and Public Convenience Reviewed
The DGP directed officers to ensure smooth traffic regulation, adequate parking arrangements and hassle-free movement of people in and around the main venue.
He emphasised that security measures should be implemented without causing unnecessary inconvenience to people attending the celebrations and that adequate arrangements should be made for their easy access to essential facilities.
Detailed discussions covered security deployment, intelligence inputs, route security, access control, surveillance and traffic management across Jammu and Kashmir.
Night Patrolling, Naka Checking Intensified
Prabhat also directed officers to intensify night patrolling and naka checking, particularly at vulnerable locations and along inter-district borders.
He reviewed anti-sabotage measures, frisking arrangements, access control, route security and surveillance mechanisms at important venues across the Union Territory.
The DGP stressed strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and called for continuous coordination between all agencies to ensure a strong and responsive security grid.
Senior Security Officials Attend Meeting
The meeting was attended by senior officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, BSF, CRPF, SSB and other security formations, including Spl DGP Coordination J&K, ADGP CID J&K, IGP Kashmir Zone, IGP Jammu Zone, IGP Security J&K, IGP Traffic J&K, IGP Railways J&K, senior DIGs, Range DIGs, District SSPs, Police District heads and other senior police and security officials.
The meeting concluded with a firm resolve to ensure foolproof security, heightened vigilance, effective inter-agency coordination and the peaceful conduct of Independence Day celebrations across Jammu and Kashmir.
