Srinagar, May 6, 2026 : In a decisive move against drug trafficking, authorities in Srinagar on Wednesday demolished an “illegally constructed” house belonging to an alleged drug peddler as part of the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign.
According to officials, the demolition took place in the Palpora Noorbagh area under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, a sustained initiative aimed at eradicating drug abuse and dismantling narcotics networks across the region.
Police identified the accused as Hilal Ahmad Sheikh, originally a resident of Zahidpora Hawal and currently residing in Pamposh Colony, Palpora Noorbagh. Authorities stated that the structure was built after illegally encroaching upon government land.
Investigations further revealed that Sheikh is involved in multiple cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Officials also suspect that the demolished property was constructed using proceeds generated from drug trafficking activities.
In a concerning development, police disclosed that several close associates and family members of the accused have also been linked to drug-related cases across the Kashmir Valley, indicating a broader network involved in illicit activities.
The action reflects a zero-tolerance approach by law enforcement agencies towards narcotics-related crimes and illegal encroachments. Officials reiterated their commitment to continue such strict measures to curb the drug menace and safeguard the youth from substance abuse.
