Srinagar, May 6, 2026 : Farooq Abdullah, president of the National Conference, stated on Wednesday that Operation Sindoor has “paid its dividends,” but firmly cautioned against the idea of prolonged conflict, stressing that wars never offer lasting solutions.
Speaking to reporters at the party headquarters in Srinagar, Abdullah underscored that while the operation achieved its objectives, the broader lesson remains clear: conflict leads only to destruction and suffering. Drawing parallels with global crises, he pointed to the devastation in Ukraine and instability across the Middle East as stark reminders of war’s long-term consequences.
He also highlighted the fragile global economic situation, noting that no country is in a position to sustain war. Referring to energy concerns, Abdullah warned that disruptions in oil and gas supplies—particularly from the Gulf—could severely impact global stability, adding that even major suppliers like Qatar may take years to normalize supply chains.
On geopolitical tensions, he urged calm, saying the world is not prepared for another major conflict given the already strained economies worldwide.
Addressing domestic political developments, Abdullah remarked that election outcomes across states reflect a mixed political landscape. He acknowledged allegations of irregularities in West Bengal raised by Mamata Banerjee and briefly noted government formations in states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Assam.
On electoral roll revisions, he admitted that multiple factors, including administrative changes, have had an impact on results. He also reaffirmed that the opposition INDIA bloc remains strong and cohesive.
Commenting on recent blasts in Punjab, Abdullah maintained that such incidents, though concerning, are not unprecedented and urged the public to remain calm and not give in to panic.
Responding to criticism from opposition parties in Jammu & Kashmir, he said it is natural for opposition groups to question the government, adding that the National Conference will continue working as per its agenda.
