NEW DELHI, May 22, 2026 : The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday announced elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states, with polling scheduled to be held on June 18, 2026.
According to an official statement issued by the Election Commission, the elections are being conducted for seats falling vacant due to the retirement of incumbent members between June 21 and July 19.
The Rajya Sabha elections will be held for:
▪️ 4 seats each in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Karnataka
▪️ 3 seats each in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan
▪️ 2 seats in Jharkhand
▪️ 1 seat each in Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram
The Commission stated that the last date for filing nominations is June 8, 2026.
The upcoming elections are expected to witness keen political activity as major parties prepare their candidates for the Upper House of Parliament.
Rajya Sabha elections are conducted through an indirect voting system in which elected Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs) cast their votes to elect representatives to the Upper House.
The polls will play an important role in determining the strength of political parties in the Rajya Sabha ahead of upcoming parliamentary proceedings and legislative sessions.
