JAMMU, May 22, 2026 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday evening chaired a high-level meeting to review plans for the establishment of a state-of-the-art International Museum of Goddess at Katra, envisioned as a global spiritual and cultural landmark dedicated to Shakti traditions.
According to officials, the proposed museum aims to provide pilgrims and visitors with a deeper understanding of Mata Shakti through immersive storytelling, sacred artefacts, local traditions and advanced technological integration.
During the meeting, board members and stakeholders shared suggestions for developing the museum into a world-class institution that would blend spirituality, culture and modern interactive experiences.
Officials said the museum will prominently showcase the sacred iconography of the 51 Shakti Peethas along with the nine divine Swaroops of Maa Durga, offering visitors a comprehensive spiritual and cultural experience.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board informed the meeting that several preparatory initiatives have already been launched, including the creation of a dedicated website to invite suggestions from across the globe, study visits to leading museums in India and identification of domain experts for the project.
The board also approved the creation of a permanent post of Director General for the International Museum of Goddess along with a dedicated team of experts and officials to oversee its development and operations.
Additionally, approval was granted for establishing a dedicated corpus fund for the conceptualisation, development and long-term functioning of the museum.
During the discussions, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha suggested deputing a specialised team of experts to visit various sacred Shakti Peeths proposed to be featured in the museum.
The board further resolved to appoint a specialised consultant for detailed research and architectural conceptualisation of the ambitious project.
Officials stated that the museum will not only serve as a spiritual destination but also function as a premier centre of knowledge with an integrated library and research centre aimed at promoting cultural, traditional and spiritual values among younger generations.
The proposed museum is expected to emerge as a major cultural and religious attraction in Jammu & Kashmir, strengthening spiritual tourism in the region.
