Srinagar, Jun 25 , 2025 : National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday urged filmmakers to produce more movies in the Kashmiri language to highlight the region’s beauty and talent.
Speaking to reporters after the premiere of Harmukh—the first-ever Kashmiri-Kannada film—Abdullah praised the film and its cast. “They have acted very well. I hope more films are made in Kashmiri, just like in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Bengal, and Bollywood,” he said.
He suggested that Kashmiri films could be dubbed into other languages to reach a broader audience, noting the global Kashmiri diaspora. However, he also emphasized the need for quality storytelling and direction. “Some films made in the past lacked artistry and couldn’t even be screened,” he remarked.
“Kashmir is full of natural beauty and raw talent. Let our local actors and filmmakers get a platform to grow and shine beyond the Valley,” Abdullah added.
He expressed satisfaction with Harmukh, saying, “God willing, it will be available on Netflix soon for the world to see.”
