KATHUA, May 20, 2026 : In a continued crackdown against narcotics-related activities, authorities in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kathua district on Wednesday detained a suspected drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act.
The detainee has been identified as Harpal Singh alias Balochi, a resident of Kathua district. Officials said he was shifted to Central Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu after the execution of the PIT-NDPS detention warrant.
According to police, the accused is a habitual offender allegedly involved in drug trafficking and several criminal activities across the district. Authorities stated that Singh has been booked in four separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act between 2003 and 2025.
Police further revealed that a total of five criminal cases are registered against him at different police stations in Kathua district.
Officials said a detailed dossier documenting his alleged involvement in narcotics-related activities was prepared and submitted to the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, recommending his preventive detention under the PIT-NDPS Act. Following legal scrutiny, the detention warrant was subsequently issued and executed.
The action forms part of the broader anti-drug campaign being carried out by law enforcement agencies across Jammu & Kashmir to dismantle narcotics networks and curb drug trafficking in the region.
