Rawalpindi, Pakistan , September 20, 2026 ; Pakistan’s jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, 73, underwent a detailed medical examination at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Sunday, amid continuing concerns raised by his family and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over his health.

PIMS Team Conducts Examination

According to jail sources cited by Pakistani media, a special medical team from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) visited Adiala Jail to examine Khan. The team was led by PIMS doctor Arif Khan and was assisted by medical personnel from the jail hospital. Reports also said specialists, including an eye doctor, were involved in the assessment.

The examination included checks of blood pressure, cholesterol and eyesight, with doctors using medical equipment brought to the jail. The medical team reportedly left the prison after completing the examination.

Health Concerns Remain a Point of Dispute

Khan’s supporters and PTI have repeatedly raised concerns about his access to medical treatment, particularly regarding an eye ailment. Pakistani authorities and jail officials have rejected allegations of inadequate medical care and have said that medical facilities are being provided when required.

Some reports following the latest examination said doctors were satisfied with Khan’s overall condition, although detailed medical findings have not been publicly released.

Previous Hospital Transfer

The latest check-up follows a significant medical dispute last month. On August 18, 2026, Pakistan’s Supreme Court ordered authorities to transfer Khan from prison to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for medical examination and treatment.

Khan was subsequently taken to PIMS rather than the private hospital specified in the court order, with the government citing security concerns surrounding the movement to Shifa Hospital. He was returned to Adiala Jail after medical examinations.

PTI Demands Further Medical Attention

PTI has continued to demand comprehensive medical care for its jailed founder and has raised concerns about his treatment in custody.

The political dispute over Khan’s imprisonment and health comes as PTI prepares for a September 27 protest march, adding further political significance to the latest medical examination.

Khan has remained incarcerated since 2023, following his arrest and subsequent convictions in multiple legal cases after his removal as prime minister in April 2022.
