SRINAGAR, June 12, 2026 : In a significant administrative overhaul aimed at strengthening the functioning of the School Education Department, the Jammu and Kashmir Government on Friday ordered the placement of 22 Principals and equivalent officers as In-charge Chief Education Officers (CEOs) and equivalent positions, besides effecting the transfer and posting of 28 officers with immediate effect.
The reshuffle was carried out through Government Order No. 227-JK (Edu) of 2026, dated June 12, 2026, issued by the School Education Department.
According to the order, the placements have been made in the officers’ own pay and grade as part of ongoing efforts to enhance administrative efficiency and improve educational governance across the Union Territory.

The officers placed as In-charge CEOs and equivalent include:

The government clarified that these placements will not confer any preferential claim for regularisation or confirmation and shall remain subject to the outcome of any pending court cases. Officers have also been directed to submit undertakings regarding the authenticity of their service records and academic qualifications.

Joining Deadline Fixed
The School Education Department has directed all officers concerned to join their new places of posting within 10 days from the issuance of the order.
Failure to assume charge within the stipulated period will result in the placement being deemed cancelled ab-initio without any further notice, the order stated.
Aim to Strengthen Educational Administration
The large-scale reshuffle is part of the government’s broader efforts to streamline administrative functioning, improve educational management, and strengthen leadership across schools and educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir.
The order has been issued by Ram Niwas Sharma, IAS, Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, School Education Department, for immediate implementation by all concerned authorities.
