Jammu, June 2, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking under the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan’, registering 176 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arresting or detaining 202 accused persons during the first 50 days of the campaign.

Sharing details of the operation, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Joginder Singh said the force’s zero-tolerance approach towards narcotics, supported by intelligence gathering, targeted enforcement, legal action, and community participation, has delivered significant results in the fight against the growing drug menace.

According to the SSP, police seized 5.533 kilograms of heroin (chitta) during the period, with an estimated market value of approximately ₹16.60 crore. Besides heroin, law enforcement agencies also recovered 3.250 kilograms of poppy straw valued at around ₹87,000, 29.267 kilograms of ganja worth nearly ₹8.78 lakh, and 1 kilogram of opium valued at approximately ₹27,000.

As part of efforts to dismantle organized drug networks, police detained a notorious drug offender under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act, targeting repeat offenders and habitual traffickers involved in narcotics distribution.

The campaign has also focused on disrupting the financial backbone of drug trafficking operations. SSP Singh revealed that police seized 37 vehicles allegedly linked to narcotics-related activities and froze 123 grams of gold worth nearly ₹13.70 lakh.

In addition, authorities froze 26 bank accounts involving transactions estimated at ₹18 lakh and attached properties worth approximately ₹5.19 crore in eight separate cases. These included three movable and five immovable properties, highlighting the emphasis on tracing and confiscating assets generated through illegal drug trade.

Taking further action against individuals involved in narcotics trafficking, police, in coordination with the district administration, demolished 22 properties belonging to known drug offenders. Administrative measures were also initiated, leading to the cancellation of 27 driving licences and 143 vehicle registration certificates (RCs) linked to offenders.

The SSP said Jammu Police additionally demolished 22 illegal structures, including 11 pucca houses and 11 khullas, which were allegedly being used to facilitate drug-related activities and provide shelter to narcotics networks.

Emphasizing that the fight against drugs requires collective participation, Singh appreciated the support extended by citizens, civil society organizations, educational institutions, and the youth in making the campaign successful. He urged the public to continue sharing information regarding drug peddling and narcotics-related activities, assuring that all credible inputs would be acted upon swiftly and effectively.

Reaffirming the police department’s commitment to creating a drug-free society, the SSP said the crackdown would continue with full intensity to dismantle narcotics networks, protect vulnerable youth, and ensure that drug traffickers find no safe haven in Jammu and Kashmir.

The ongoing campaign reflects the administration’s broader strategy of combining law enforcement, financial investigations, asset seizures, and community engagement to tackle the drug menace and safeguard future generations from the devastating impact of substance abuse.
