Srinagar, June 2, 2026 : The first batch of Haj pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir returned home on Tuesday after completing the sacred pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, receiving a warm welcome at Srinagar International Airport from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and senior government officials.
According to officials, the inaugural return flight carrying 144 Haj pilgrims landed at Srinagar Airport in the afternoon, marking the beginning of the repatriation process for pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah personally received the pilgrims at the airport and greeted them upon their arrival. He was accompanied by his Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and other senior officials from the administration.
The arrival of the first batch marked an emotional and joyous moment for families and relatives who had gathered at the airport to welcome their loved ones back after the spiritual journey.
Officials said the return operations for Haj pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh commenced on June 2 and will continue until June 16, 2026, with multiple flights scheduled to bring back the remaining pilgrims in phases.
This year, a total of 4,641 pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir performed Haj, including 2,583 male pilgrims and 2,058 female pilgrims, reflecting strong participation from the Union Territory in one of Islam’s most revered religious obligations.
The Haj pilgrimage, which draws millions of Muslims from across the globe every year, holds immense spiritual significance and is regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam.
Authorities have made extensive arrangements at Srinagar Airport and other designated facilities to ensure the smooth arrival, reception, and onward movement of pilgrims returning from the holy journey.
The successful commencement of the return operation marks the beginning of a coordinated effort by the administration to facilitate the safe and comfortable homecoming of thousands of pilgrims over the coming days.
