KATHUA, June 18, 2026 : In a significant boost to infrastructure, education, healthcare, sports, and connectivity in Jammu & Kashmir, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced a series of major developmental projects for Kathua district while addressing a public gathering near Khilochak Pond under the Jasrota Assembly Constituency on Thursday.
The event was organized as part of the nationwide celebrations marking 12 years of the Narendra Modi-led Government at the Centre. Addressing a large gathering, Dr. Jitendra Singh outlined several upcoming projects that are expected to accelerate Kathua’s emergence as a key growth and development hub in the Union Territory.
Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Express Corridor to Boost Connectivity
One of the most significant announcements made by the Union Minister was that Kathua will soon be connected through the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Express Corridor, a major infrastructure project aimed at enhancing regional connectivity, reducing travel time, and stimulating economic activity across the region.
The Minister stated that the express corridor will strengthen transportation networks, improve access to markets, and create new opportunities for trade, tourism, and investment.
Gas Pipeline Project to Enhance Energy Access
Dr. Jitendra Singh also revealed that a gas pipeline project for Kathua is in the final stages of planning and is expected to be implemented shortly. The project will provide residents and industries with access to cleaner and more efficient energy, supporting sustainable development and industrial growth in the district.
North India’s First Homeopathy College Nearing Reality
Highlighting advancements in the education and healthcare sectors, the Minister informed that the tender process for North India’s first Homeopathy Medical College in Kathua has already been completed.
He announced that the foundation stone for the institution will be laid soon, marking a major milestone in strengthening alternative medicine education and healthcare facilities in the region.
Arun Jaitley Stadium Project Gains Momentum
In another major development, Dr. Singh stated that the process of transferring land for the proposed Arun Jaitley Stadium at Hiranagar is underway. Once completed, the stadium will provide world-class sporting facilities to local athletes and help promote sports culture among the youth of Jammu & Kashmir.
Kathua’s Transformation Over The Last 12 Years
Reflecting on the district’s development journey, Dr. Jitendra Singh said Kathua has transformed from a neglected border district into a major centre of industrial growth, healthcare, education, innovation, and connectivity.
According to the Minister, several landmark projects have played a key role in this transformation, including:
- Establishment of Engineering and Medical Colleges.
- Setting up of a Passport Office.
- Installation of Maharaja Gulab Singh’s statue.
- Development of North India’s first Seed Processing Plant.
- Establishment of a Biotechnology Industrial Park.
- Expansion of healthcare facilities through Government Medical College.
He noted that these initiatives have significantly improved educational opportunities, healthcare access, and employment prospects for local residents.
Healthcare Infrastructure Strengthened
Dr. Singh highlighted the role of the Government Medical College in transforming healthcare services within the district. The institution has improved access to quality medical treatment and reduced the dependence of patients on healthcare facilities outside the region.
Strategic Projects Driving Economic Growth
The Union Minister also emphasized the importance of several strategic infrastructure projects, including:
- Shahpur Kandi Project
- Ujh Multipurpose Project
- Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway
He stated that these initiatives will play a crucial role in improving irrigation, transportation, economic growth, and regional development across Jammu & Kashmir.
Vande Bharat Trains Strengthen Connectivity
Highlighting advancements in rail connectivity, Dr. Jitendra Singh noted the introduction of two Vande Bharat Express trains in Jammu & Kashmir. He described the development as a historic step toward modern transportation and enhanced connectivity for residents of the Union Territory.

The Minister reiterated that over the last 12 years, the Narendra Modi Government has focused on transparent, accountable, and development-oriented governance. He highlighted flagship schemes such as:
- Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
- PM SVANidhi Scheme
- Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana
According to him, these initiatives have empowered women, supported street vendors, encouraged entrepreneurship, and improved the socio-economic conditions of millions of citizens across the country.
