NEW DELHI, AUGUST 08, 2026: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the passage of a US Senate bill that could pave the way for tariffs of up to 100 per cent on imports from five countries, including India.
The proposed measure is linked to countries purchasing Russian oil, with supporters of the bill arguing that such trade contributes to the financing of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Reacting to the development in a post shared on X, Kejriwal accused the Modi government of allowing excessive US influence over India’s decision-making. He alleged that US President Donald Trump’s interference could now be seen in both major and minor decisions concerning the country.
Kejriwal also accused the Centre of compromising India’s interests in its dealings with the United States and claimed that the latest US move had placed India in an embarrassing position internationally.
The development comes amid continuing discussions over India-US trade relations, tariffs and India’s energy ties with Russia, adding another layer to the ongoing geopolitical and economic debate.
