Leh, July 18, 2025: Newly appointed Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, on Friday pledged to work with the people to build a “new Ladakh” and elevate the region’s status as a world-class tourism destination.
Gupta was administered the oath of office by Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, at a ceremony held at Raj Niwas in Leh.
“I assure the people of Ladakh that we will rise above religion, caste, and party politics to work together for the development of the region,” Gupta said while addressing media after the ceremony. “We want Ladakh to be globally recognised—like other renowned tourist destinations—for its adventure, culture, and natural beauty.”
The former Deputy Chief Minister and Speaker of the J&K Legislative Assembly, Gupta also acknowledged the region’s past neglect. “There’s no doubt Ladakh has suffered discrimination. But now, there’s a new beginning, and a lot remains to be done,” he noted.
MLA Vikram Randhawa, who attended the event, called Gupta’s appointment a proud moment for Jammu and a blessing for Ladakh. “He’s a seasoned administrator and a son of the soil. Ladakh is lucky to have a leader with such rich political and legislative experience,” Randhawa said.
