Prosecution Evidence Cited as Key to Verdict
Reacting to the judgment, advocate Krishan Kumar Dubey described the decision as historic, stating that the case had attracted widespread public attention.
He said the prosecution presented strong and precise evidence that established the accused persons’ guilt. According to him, the defence had raised arguments concerning the absence of an eyewitness to the murder and the fact that both accused had daughters. However, the court’s decision reflected the weight of the prosecution’s evidence, he said.
Dubey also emphasised the premeditated nature of the crime, describing the alleged murder and subsequent disposal of the victim’s remains as particularly grave circumstances considered in the case.
What Was the Blue Drum Murder Case?
The case concerns the killing of 29-year-old Saurabh Rajput, a former Merchant Navy officer. His wife, Muskan Rastogi, and Sahil Shukla, described in reports as her schoolmate-turned-partner, were accused of conspiring to murder him and concealing his remains inside a blue drum.
According to the case details, Rajput’s body was dismembered into three parts before the remains were concealed. The shocking circumstances of the crime led to widespread public attention and the case became popularly known as the Blue Drum Murder Case.
During the trial, 22 witnesses were presented before the court.
Death Sentence Described as a Landmark Decision
Advocate Dubey called the judgment significant, particularly because a woman had also been sentenced to death in the case. He further commented on arrangements concerning the couple’s daughter, stating that she could remain with her mother until the age of six, subject to the applicable legal and custodial arrangements.
The verdict marks a major development in a case that drew intense public scrutiny because of the nature of the crime and the relationship between the accused and the victim.
