SRINAGAR, June 15, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday expressed hope that the recently announced peace agreement between the United States and Iran remains intact until the formal signing of the accord scheduled for Friday in Switzerland.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event in Srinagar, Abdullah said the details of the agreement are still unknown and urged patience until the official signing ceremony takes place.
“Neither you nor I know what is in that peace deal. Perhaps, the United States, Iran, and to some extent Pakistan know what is in it. We will have to wait till Friday,” Abdullah remarked.
His comments came after Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on social media platform X that a peace deal between the United States and Iran had been reached following intensive negotiations. According to Sharif, both nations have agreed to an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations across all fronts, including in Lebanon.
Welcoming the development, Abdullah stressed the importance of ensuring that no actions are taken to derail the agreement before its formal endorsement.
“We hope that this war stops for good and the Strait of Hormuz is opened. The injustice done to Iran — since they did not start the war — and the losses to their assets suffered in the strikes also need to be mentioned in this deal,” he said.
The Chief Minister also addressed preparations for the upcoming annual Amarnath Yatra, extending a warm welcome to pilgrims expected to visit Jammu and Kashmir for the sacred journey.
“We welcome the pilgrims. We hope they have a good pilgrimage,” Abdullah said.
The Amarnath Yatra 2026 is scheduled to commence on July 3, 2026, and conclude on August 9, 2026, with authorities making extensive arrangements to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage season.
