NEW DELHI, May 7, 2026 : Marking the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the military mission as a defining benchmark in modern warfare, praising the Indian armed forces for their precision strikes, coordinated execution, and unwavering commitment to national security.
In a message issued on Thursday, Singh said Operation Sindoor showcased India’s growing military capability and preparedness in the face of evolving security threats. The operation, launched on May 7 last year in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, targeted nine terror infrastructures located in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. According to official estimates, at least 100 terrorists were eliminated during the coordinated airstrikes.
Paying tribute to the armed forces, the Defence Minister said the courage, sacrifice, and professionalism displayed by Indian soldiers during the mission reflected unmatched operational precision and exceptional synergy among the Army, Air Force, and Navy.
“Operation Sindoor stands as a powerful symbol of India’s national resolve and readiness to act decisively whenever the nation’s security is threatened,” Singh said. He added that the operation demonstrated the country’s advancing defence capabilities and its steady progress towards self-reliance under the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Highlighting the significance of integrated military operations, Singh noted that the seamless coordination among the three services during Operation Sindoor has set new standards for future combat strategies and modern military engagements.
Later in the day, the Defence Minister is scheduled to chair a high-level joint commanders’ conference in Jaipur, where India’s top military leadership will review national security challenges and assess the armed forces’ combat preparedness.
According to the Defence Ministry, the conference will focus on emerging warfare domains such as cyber warfare, space security, and cognitive warfare. Discussions are also expected to outline a roadmap for strengthening India’s future military capabilities and ensuring a resilient, technology-driven defence force prepared for next-generation conflicts.
