NEW DELHI, May 7, 2026 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday hailed Operation Sindoor as a defining chapter in India’s fight against terrorism, saying the mission showcased the unmatched strength, precision, and determination of the country’s armed forces and intelligence agencies.
Marking the first anniversary of the operation, the Union Home Minister said the mission would forever serve as a stern warning to India’s enemies that terrorism against the nation would not go unanswered.
In a message posted on social media platform X, Shah described Operation Sindoor as an “epochal mission” that demonstrated the coordinated strength of India’s military capabilities, intelligence network, and decisive political leadership.
“History will remember Operation Sindoor as the day when the precise striking power of our armed forces, the meticulous intelligence of our agencies, and the resolute political will of the nation came together to destroy every terror base across the border that dared to cast an evil shadow on innocent citizens in Pahalgam,” Shah stated.
He emphasized that the operation sent a clear and lasting message to hostile forces attempting to threaten India’s security.
“This day will continue to remind our enemies that no matter where they hide, they cannot escape. They remain within the reach of our vigilant eyes and the fierce wrath of our firepower. On this day, I salute the unparalleled valour and sacrifice of our forces,” he added.
Operation Sindoor was launched by India on May 7, 2025, following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people, mostly tourists, lost their lives.
As part of the operation, Indian armed forces conducted precision airstrikes on nine terror infrastructure sites located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The military response led to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, with Pakistan attempting retaliatory strikes that were largely intercepted and neutralized by Indian defense systems.
The hostilities eventually de-escalated after military officials from both countries held hotline talks on May 10, leading to an understanding to halt further military actions.
The anniversary of Operation Sindoor is being commemorated across the country as a symbol of India’s uncompromising stance against terrorism and a tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and professionalism of its armed forces.
