Srinagar, August 21, 2026 ; PDP leader Iltija Mufti on Friday strongly criticised the reported decision to send former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan back to jail following his medical examination, describing the move as “unbelievably cruel.”
In a post on X, Mufti alleged that Khan had remained incarcerated for nearly three years over what she termed “baseless” charges and expressed admiration for his refusal to compromise on his political position.
“Unbelievably cruel for the Pakistani army to send Imran Khan back into jail,” she said, while also describing Khan as someone who had continued to “hold his ground” despite his prolonged incarceration.
Her remarks came after the former Pakistan prime minister and former international cricketer was shifted back to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Friday morning.
Khan had undergone a medical examination at the state-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). Doctors from Al-Shifa Hospital were also reportedly present during the examination.
The development has drawn renewed attention to the political and legal circumstances surrounding Khan’s continued imprisonment and the treatment of Pakistan’s former prime minister.
Mufti’s comments reflect her criticism of the Pakistani establishment’s handling of Khan’s case and her support for his continued political stance.
