Srinagar, September 11, 2026 ; Jammu and Kashmir is ready to welcome filmmakers back to the Valley, with modern infrastructure, breathtaking landscapes and a growing pool of local creative talent, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan said.
Addressing the concluding ceremony of the first International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir in Srinagar on Thursday, Murugan extended a direct invitation to filmmakers from India and abroad to return to the region and revive its historic position as one of the country’s premier cinematic destinations.
🎥 From Film Locations to Local Storytellers
Murugan highlighted a significant change taking place in Jammu and Kashmir’s creative landscape.
For decades, filmmakers travelled to the region primarily to capture its iconic mountains, valleys and landscapes. The Minister said the focus is now expanding, with young people from J&K themselves stepping behind the camera.
He highlighted initiatives such as scriptwriting workshops and digital storytelling, saying local youth are increasingly demonstrating their creativity and ability to contribute to the wider film and entertainment industry.

The Union Minister said Jammu and Kashmir has the potential to once again become a preferred destination for filmmakers from across India and around the world.
He emphasised the importance of developing industry-ready skills among young people while strengthening industry linkages, quality infrastructure and professional opportunities.
The growing participation of J&K youth in filmmaking, scriptwriting and digital storytelling, he said, can open new avenues for local talent and encourage collaboration with the broader creative industry.
