JAMMU, May 2, 2026 : In a significant administrative development, the government has appointed two officers of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) to key Commissioner-level positions in Jammu and Kashmir, strengthening the tax administration framework in the Union Territory.
According to an official order, Mahesh Chand Bhardwaj has been posted as Commissioner, Audit, Jammu, GST and Central Excise, where he will oversee audit functions and ensure compliance within the indirect tax system.
Meanwhile, Samaya Murali has been appointed as Commissioner (Appeals), Jammu, GST and Central Excise, a crucial role responsible for handling appeals and ensuring fair adjudication of tax-related disputes under the GST and Central Excise framework.
These appointments are part of ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in tax administration, particularly in the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and related regulatory mechanisms.
Officials noted that experienced IRS officers in such strategic roles are expected to streamline processes, strengthen revenue systems, and improve grievance redressal mechanisms for taxpayers across the region.
