Srinagar, June 3, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday led National Conference (NC) legislators and independent MLAs supporting his government to an off-site meeting, amid claims by Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma that the ruling government could collapse at any time.
The development came after Sharma alleged that several legislators from the ruling camp were dissatisfied and on the verge of switching sides, raising questions about the stability of the National Conference-led government.
Soon after legislators assembled at the Chief Minister’s residence in Srinagar for a scheduled meeting, they boarded mini buses and were taken to an off-site location, believed to be Dachigam National Park, away from the media spotlight.
Sharing photographs of the journey on social media, Omar Abdullah said the gathering was intended as a review exercise rather than a political firefight.
“We are off for an off-site to spend the day taking stock of the last 19 months – the good, the not so good & everything in between,” Abdullah wrote on X.
Responding to speculation that the venue had been changed at the last moment following opposition remarks, the Chief Minister clarified that the off-site meeting had been planned well in advance.
“I’m sorry to disappoint you but it has NOT been shifted at the last moment. It was always my intention to conduct this meeting off-site and all arrangements had been made days in advance at the location originally chosen by me,” he stated.
According to party sources, apart from National Conference MLAs, some Members of Parliament and independent legislators supporting the government also participated in the deliberations.
In an invitation sent to legislators earlier this week, Abdullah had stated that the meeting would focus on matters of collective importance, governance priorities, public welfare initiatives, and a review of the government’s performance over the past 19 months.
The meeting assumes political significance as opposition leaders continue to question the durability of the NC-led administration, while the ruling camp seeks to project unity and confidence ahead of future political challenges.
