SRINAGAR, AUGUST 10, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said that the expansion of his Council of Ministers is likely to take place soon, while dismissing speculation that the exercise would be carried out on August 15.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, Omar Abdullah said discussions were underway with the concerned authorities regarding the cabinet expansion.
When asked whether the expansion would take place on August 15, the Chief Minister rejected the speculation, saying the process would be completed soon.
“The exercise would take place and it will be done soon,” Omar said.
Omar Welcomes Possible Response to Opposition Issues
Commenting on reports that Union Home Minister Amit Shah may address issues raised by the opposition in Parliament, Omar Abdullah welcomed the development.
He said that raising issues is the responsibility of the opposition, while responding to those concerns is the government’s responsibility.
“The opposition’s job is to raise issues. The government’s job is to respond to those issues,” Omar said.
The Chief Minister further said that if the concerns raised during the Jantar Mantar protest are addressed in Parliament and the development helps the House resume its functioning, it would be a positive step.
Omar’s remarks come amid discussions over the functioning of Parliament and growing anticipation over the proposed expansion of the Jammu and Kashmir Council of Ministers.
