New Delhi, September 28, 2026 : Union Minister and BJP leader J P Nadda on Monday accused the Congress and its allies of attempting to “vitiate the atmosphere” over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the opposition was continuing to raise concerns even after Election Commission officials had rejected what he described as their claims.
Addressing reporters in New Delhi, Nadda alleged that the opposition INDIA bloc was adopting new methods to create “confusion and anarchy” because of what he characterised as frustration over the country’s progress.
Nadda referred to the recent political controversy surrounding the SIR exercise and claimed that Election Commission members had addressed and contradicted allegations raised by opposition parties.
“Now that the members of the Election Commission have exposed every lie, they (opposition parties) are once again attempting to vitiate the atmosphere,” Nadda said.
Attack on Opposition Leaders
The Union minister alleged that questioning or criticising autonomous and constitutional institutions had become a central political strategy of several opposition leaders, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
Nadda further accused the opposition of prioritising political power over issues such as national security, public welfare and national dignity.
He also alleged that dynastic politics and personal interests were influencing the opposition’s political approach.
‘Repeating a Lie Does Not Make It Truth’
Taking direct aim at Rahul Gandhi, Nadda said that repeatedly making an allegation would not turn it into a fact.
He claimed that voters had understood what he described as the opposition’s “double standards” and “negative politics.”
Nadda also said that political forces seeking to create instability had faced public rejection in the past and would face a similar response in the future.
SIR Debate Remains Politically Contentious
The remarks come amid an ongoing political debate over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, with opposition parties raising concerns about the process while the Election Commission and ruling-party leaders have defended the exercise.
