Srinagar, July 24, 2025 : The sacred Chhari Mubarak—the saffron-robed holy mace of Lord Shiva—was ceremoniously taken to the historic Shankaracharya Temple atop Gopadri hills on Thursday, marking the observance of ‘Haryali Amavasya’ (Shravan Amavasya), in line with age-old Amarnath Yatra traditions.
Led by Mahant Deependra Giri, the custodian of the holy mace, the Chhari Mubarak Swami Amarnath Ji procession began from its base at Dashnami Akhara near Lal Chowk and proceeded to the Shankaracharya Temple for special prayers.
Amid the chanting of Vedic hymns and the resonating sound of conch shells, a pujan was performed, with sadhus accompanying the holy mace offering collective prayers for peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mahant Giri said the Chhari Mubarak will next visit the Sharika Bhawani Temple at Hari Parbat on Friday to pay obeisance to the goddess. Rituals for Chhari-Sthapana will be conducted at Shri Amareshwar Temple, Dashnami Akhara, on Sunday, followed by Chhari-Pujan on the occasion of Nag Panchami on Tuesday.
The holy mace will then begin its traditional journey to the Amarnath cave shrine, with night halts at Pahalgam, Chandanwari, Sheshnag, and Panchtarni, culminating with darshan and pujan at the shrine on Shravan Purnima (August 9). The yatra will conclude with the ritual visarjan of the mace in the Lidder River at Pahalgam the following day.
