Anantnag, August 10, 2026 : In a touching example of compassion and community support, residents of Kadipora in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district came together to help a labourer from Jharkhand return home after learning about the death of his mother.
The labourer, identified as Badal Kumar, had reportedly arrived in Kashmir only a couple of days earlier. He was found sitting outside the Syed Sahaib shrine at Kadipora, visibly distressed and crying.
Locals Learn About His Tragedy
Concerned residents approached Badal and asked him about the reason for his distress. They reportedly learned that his mother had passed away in Jharkhand and that he was struggling to arrange the money needed to travel back to his native village.
Moved by his situation, the locals immediately came together and pooled their own money to meet his travel expenses and other immediate needs.
They also arranged transportation to help him begin his journey to Kapra village in Jharkhand, where his grieving family was waiting for him.
“We Felt It Was Our Responsibility to Help”
Speaking to the news agency Kashmir News Trust, a local resident said the community could not remain indifferent after seeing the young labourer crying and struggling to get home.
“We saw him sitting outside the shrine and crying. When we asked him what had happened, we came to know that his mother had passed away and he needed to return home. We felt it was our responsibility to help him.”
Another resident said Badal had only recently arrived in Kashmir when tragedy struck his family.
“He had just come to Kashmir and suddenly lost his mother. At such a time, nobody should be left alone. We only did what any human being should do.”
Compassion Beyond Region and Language
The residents said their decision to help was driven purely by humanity, without considering the labourer’s region, language or background.
They said Kashmir has a long tradition of extending help to people facing difficult circumstances, particularly those who are far away from their families.
“He was far away from his home and family, so we decided to make sure he reached his village safely,” the residents said.
A Gesture of Humanity
With the required financial and travel assistance arranged by the locals, Badal was able to begin his journey towards Kapra village in Jharkhand to be with his family following the loss of his mother.
The gesture has once again highlighted the spirit of community support, compassion and hospitality in Kashmir, demonstrating how ordinary citizens can make a meaningful difference when someone finds themselves alone and helpless during a difficult moment.
