SRINAGAR, June 10, 2026 : In a significant disciplinary action aimed at maintaining accountability within the force, Baramulla Police has disengaged a Special Police Officer (SPO) from service following his alleged involvement in a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The action was taken with immediate effect after the officer was found allegedly linked to a narcotics-related incident during a police operation conducted earlier this year in north Kashmir.
SPO Removed from Service
According to police officials, SPO Khalid Nazir Khan, a resident of Katipora, Tangmarg, has been disengaged from the SPO cadre following his alleged involvement in an NDPS case.
The decision was taken after departmental review of the incident and in view of the seriousness of the allegations against the officer.
Police stated that maintaining discipline, integrity, and public trust remains paramount within the law enforcement system.
Incident During Naka Checking
Officials said the case stems from an incident that occurred on April 23, 2026, during a routine naka checking operation at Wussan Crossing in the Kunzer area of Baramulla district.
During the operation, police personnel intercepted a vehicle for inspection.
According to the police statement, the occupants of the vehicle, including the SPO, were found in circumstances that raised suspicion among the checking team.
Recovery During Search
Following the interception, police conducted a detailed search of the vehicle and its occupants.
Officials reported the recovery of:
- Syringes
- Needles
- Silver foil paper allegedly used for the consumption of narcotic substances
The recovered items prompted further legal action under provisions of the NDPS Act.
NDPS Case Registered
Subsequently, police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, including:
- Section 8
- Section 27
- Section 29
The investigation into the matter remains subject to legal proceedings under the applicable law.
Disciplinary Action Taken
Police authorities stated that the alleged conduct was considered inconsistent with the standards expected from members of a disciplined force.
In view of the seriousness of the allegations and the need to uphold professional ethics within the department, the SPO was disengaged from service with immediate effect.
Officials emphasized that law enforcement agencies maintain a zero-tolerance approach toward misconduct and any activities that could undermine public confidence in the police force.
