NEW DELHI, April 25, 2026 : Amid rising temperatures across the country, the India Meteorological Department has issued heatwave advisories and safety guidelines, warning of increasing heat stress in several regions.

- Temperatures in many parts of northwest, central, and peninsular India are ranging between 40°C to 44°C
- Highest recorded: 44.5°C in Sri Ganganagar
- Several regions are experiencing temperatures 5°C above normal, signaling severe heat conditions

Heatwave conditions are likely in parts of:
- Jammu and Kashmir
- Himachal Pradesh
- Punjab
- Haryana
- Delhi
- Uttar Pradesh
- Rajasthan
- Central India regions

The IMD has urged people to:
- Avoid direct sunlight, especially during peak afternoon hours
- Stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids
- Wear light, loose, and breathable clothing
- Avoid strenuous outdoor activities

- Children
- Elderly individuals

- Northwest India: No major temperature change till April 27, followed by a slight drop
- Central & other regions: Gradual rise, then decline
- Coastal & eastern areas may experience hot and humid conditions, while warm nights are expected in parts of north India
The IMD stressed that early precautions and awareness are key to preventing heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
