JAMMU, April 23, 2026 : A Beat Guard has been suspended following the seizure of illegal deodar timber in the Bhadarwah area of Doda district, officials said.
Acting on specific inputs, a joint team of Forest Protection Force and territorial staff intercepted a TATA Mobile vehicle carrying 20 deodar scants measuring 54.44 cft at Jalga village. During the operation, the in-charge Beat Guard was also found moving on the same route, with a mechanical cutter recovered from his possession.
Authorities said the source of the timber is yet to be confirmed, with investigations underway to determine whether it originated from Chiralla or Neru Range.
Pending inquiry, the Beat Guard has been attached to the Divisional Forest Office, Bhadarwah, and a detailed probe has been ordered. Officials have been directed to submit a report within a week and initiate further legal action.
